About me
Just for some background on myself, I went to Cal (UC Berkeley) from 1997-02 earning a degree from the Walter A. Haas School of Business as well as playing on the Cal Golf team. While on the team, I was a two time team captain playing in one NCAA Championship (2000) and three NCAA Regional Championship (2000, 2001 and 2002).
Upon completing my undergraduate degree, I decided not to turn professional yet pursued a Master’s Degree in Education at Cal from 2002-04. In my time as a graduate student, I was the graduate assistant coach for the Cal Golf program, and I was able to help the Cal Golf team win the 2004 NCAA Championship at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia!
When I completed my Master’s Degree in 2004, I became the assistant/associate head men’s golf coach for Cal from 2004-2016 earning the Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year in 2008 and having the honor to coach players like Max Homa (2013 NCAA and Pac-12 Champion), Byeong Hun An (2009 US Amateur Champion), Michael Kim (2013 National Player of the Year), Eric Mina (2010 PAC-10 Champion) and Michael Weaver (2012 US Amateur Runner Up).
In August 2016, I became the head men’s golf coach at Cal and was the head coach for eight seasons. From 2016-2024, I was fortunate to become the Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2018 and have had the privilege to recruit and coach players such as Collin Morikawa (two time major champion winner and four time All American), KK Limbhasut (2019 All American and current Korn Ferry member), Sebastian Crampton (2019 All American), Sampson Zheng (current Asian Tour member, two time All American; 2024 PGA TourU final ranking of #14 and WAGR #19 before turning pro), Aaron Du (2022 John Burns medalist), Kuangyu Chen (current PGA Tour Americas member and 2023 Cal Poly Invitational medalist), Nathan Wang (current Stanford player and 2022 NCGA Champion), Ethan Fang (current Oklahoma State player and 2025 British Amateur Champion and Walker Cupper), Eric Lee (current Oklahoma State player and 2025 US Amateur semifinalist, 2023 Erin Hills medalist and 2022 AJGA Player of the Year) and Ziqin Zhou (current Cal player and 2024 Asia Pacific Amateur runner up).
One of the many highlights in my time as head coach was making four NCAA Regionals and two NCAA Championship as well as having the #3 ranked 2023 recruiting class according to Golf Channel. As time wore on, the travel required of me as head coach was becoming hard on my family, especially my two young children, so it was time for change.
I hope to help you and your child become a better golfer to give him the best chance at playing college golf!
